The GMC 6.2L and 6.5L diesel engines, developed by General Motors, represent significant milestones in diesel technology for light and medium-duty trucks. Introduced in 1982, the 6.2L diesel focused on fuel efficiency and durability, featuring a V8 configuration and indirect injection. It was widely used in GM's trucks and SUVs and saw extensive use in the military Humvee. In 1992, the 6.5L diesel engine was introduced as an evolution of the 6.2L. It brought advancements like turbocharging and electronic fuel injection, which improved power output and performance. The 6.5L diesel, known for its robust design, was used in various GM trucks, SUVs, and continued military applications. The production of the 6.5L ended in 2000, paving the way for the more advanced Duramax series.
